For more than twenty years, Shiny Happy Smiles has been part of the St. Pete story. It’s where kids learn that the dentist can be fun and families know they’re in good hands. When Dr. Josh Samuel took the lead, his goal wasn’t to start over. It was to build on something already loved.
He brought new energy, fresh ideas, and a space that feels more like a storybook than a clinic. The result? A practice that still honors its roots but feels lighter, warmer, and just a little more magical.
Dr. Josh believes great dentistry isn’t only about perfect technique. It’s about connection. About helping families understand care in a way that actually makes sense. Dr. Josh Samuel
Dr. Josh Samuel is a board-certified pediatric dentist known for his calm presence, genuine connection with kids, and ability to make even the most nervous patients feel at ease. Whether it is a toddler’s first visit or helping an older child build confidence in the chair, he meets every child with patience, empathy, and just the right amount of fun.
Originally from Toronto, Dr. Josh completed both his Bachelor of Science in Biology and Doctor of Dental Medicine through a highly competitive accelerated program at Nova Southeastern University. He earned a full Presidential Scholarship and was consistently recognized on the Dean’s List.
During dental school, he was selected as a pediatric honors student and took part in outreach work providing care to underserved communities in rural Jamaica, an experience that continues to shape how he approaches patient care today.
He completed his pediatric residency at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, where he received advanced training in behavior guidance, sedation, and hospital-based dentistry. He also achieved top board scores during his pediatric residency, reflecting his commitment to clinical excellence and lifelong learning.
Dr. Josh is dual-certified in both the United States and Canada, though he will tell you the only real difference is whether maple syrup is involved.
What really defines Dr. Josh, though, is his vision. He believes a dental visit should feel less like a routine appointment and more like a warm, thoughtful experience. Inspired by great hospitality and simple, intentional design, he is building a practice that runs smoothly, feels personal, and helps kids actually look forward to coming in.
What he loves most about pediatric dentistry is the opportunity to build trust with families and help kids develop confidence that lasts far beyond the dental chair. His goal is simple. Every child should leave feeling seen, safe, and a little braver than when they walked in.
His faith plays an important role in how he practices, leading with kindness, integrity, and compassion in every interaction.
Outside the office, you will find him training for his next race, traveling, reading with a good coffee in hand, or spending time with family and loved ones. Dr. Josh is proud to be part of Shiny Happy Smiles and looks forward to caring for your family.

Smiles that reach beyond our walls
Giving back is at the heart of Shiny Happy Smiles. Dr. Josh is passionate about serving children both locally and globally through volunteer dentistry and community outreach.
He volunteers with TeamSmile, partnering with professional sports teams to provide free dental care to underserved children, and serves as faculty at Give Kids A Smile events through the LECOM School of Dental Medicine, helping mentor future dental professionals while caring for children in need.
Dr. Josh is also actively involved in events throughout the Florida and Tampa Bay community focused on education, outreach, and improving children’s oral health. In addition, he participates in international medical mission trips to Jamaica and beyond, helping provide dental care and support to underserved children and families around the world. He also plans to serve Inuit children in Nunavut, Canada, where access to dental care in remote communities is limited.
